So I finally moved to Venice! And what a massive whirlwind it has been! BUT I feel I have finally got my life together here so I can actually start posting. I won't lie, the first day was a absolute nightmare. My flight left Birmingham at 6:35am so that meant a very early start with only about three hours sleep from the night before. But after some very emotional goodbyes to my family and boyfriend I was off. It wasn't until I was sitting on the plane ready to leave that it actually all sank in.
So this of course meant a obligatory airplane window photo!
Once I landed and dragged my 33 kilo grams worth of luggage to the vaporetto stop I was a tired sweaty mess. Then add this to a even sweatier 90 minute boat journey to my stop you can imagine the state I was in! Oh and then I was stuck outside the vaporetto stop for three hours because my landlord didn't show up. Soooooo a stressful morning to say the least haha.
Now that's the moaning over! Once I arrived at my apartment I felt better, we really did do well with renting this place because I now know all the other Erasmus students have ended up paying to live in a hostel for the year for about the same amount as us. So top tip time, look for private landlords before just siding with the 'university' accommodation, but I can write a separate post for this.
My landlord then dragged me around the entire of Venice to get my fiscal code sorted, which meant I got a mini tour but at the same time a flood of anxiety. Now, I knew this is what was to be expected with a move like this but for my first 24 hours here I really thought I'd be better off going home. I had became an resident of Venice, signed over nearly 1000 euros and pretty much nearly melted in the 30 degree heat, all while being shouted at in Italian by my landlord and guess what... I can't speak Italian..
Overall it was a very overwhelming day, but I had woken up feeling a lot more refreshed.. Plus my flat mates turned up so I could finally get out and see Venice without my landlord following me haha. Anyway my point is that it does get better and if any of you find yourself in a similar situation just remember once those first day nerves are out the way everything changes. For example, I am currently IN LOVE with Venice. More posts to follow!
