A few weeks ago I went to the wonderful city of Paris for a few days, well four days to be exact. In that time me and my boyfriend managed to get all the tourist destinations in as well as some lovely sightseeing of our own. So as I haven't moved to Venice just yet (12 days in counting, arghhh) I thought it was most appropriate to share with you my time exploring Parieeeeeeee.
Day one
So the majority of the first day was spent travelling and sorting ourselves out (and a nap of course). But we did do some exploring on the evening. We stayed at Hotel Home Moderne and I would just like to stay that it was such a good hotel experience. Everything was brand new and refurbished and the staff were sooooo nice and spoke perfect English, which was great because our French was awful!
We found a fair which was going on right next to the Lourve. So the majority of the evening was spent there going on the rides and trying a crepe or two, which was an evening well spent I think!
After that we needed some dinner, so went on a mission looking for somewhere to eat. Now the idiots we are didn't realise the times on our phones were still a hour behind, so we were surprised to find everywhere had stopping serving food at 9pm when it really was 10pm! So this resulted in a late night Mcdonalds. But French Mcdonalds is still French cuisine right?
Day two
So the next day was our first full day there so we decided to go up the Eiffel tower, because what better to way to see Paris? After a hour or so queuing, with some very funny entertainers working the crowd, we got up to the second platform. We had some lunch, which was great because it meant we got dinner with a view! Then we made our way up to the Summit.
Now I couldn't bear to look at of the window while in the lift on the way up, I just couldn't help but thinking it was going to drop or something crazy like that haha. But I had no problems whilst up there. The views really were beautiful, especially of the gardens underneath. I also thought it was soooo cute that there is this 'place to kiss' sign up there. I can just imagine all the proposals done in that spot. But maybe that's because I do love a bit of cheese.
After spending hours up in the air we came down and had a walk along the river banks and found somewhere to eat. I had THE nicest French onion soup with cheese and croutons. After spending all day walking and hopping on and off the tubes we were worn out, so we ended up back at the hotel by 10pm!
Day three
We really wanted to see the Catacombs after reading so much about them. We must have queued for about two and half hours in the boiling hot mid day sun (boiling for us Brits). It really was worth it though and there was plenty around for one of us to go and get a drink or snack every now and then.
It was so amazing to see tombs this way and to hear all the history behind it. If you are going to Paris I cannot recommend you go enough. I think it cost us about seven or eight euros each, and the experience it provides really is something.
The way the bones and skulls are arranged shows the time and care that has gone into this way of remembering the dead. There were also miniature buildings and monuments down there which had been hand carved by people who (correct me if I'm wrong) worked there.
After this we had some food and spent the evening exploring the neighbourhood near our hotel (and a few bars of course).
Day four
Our flight home wasn't until late so we used the day wisely! We started with a visit to the Louvre and went and saw Mona!
My photography really didn't do the ceilings any justice as they are beautiful with so much detail. We did get a glimpse at the Mona Lisa but with it being the Summer months it was prime tourist time so it was really busy. So busy we got a little bit too hot in there so we went for a wonder outside the museum.
After this we hopped onto the tube to go and do some shopping! Now any girl looking for shops in Paris would have heard all about the strip of designer and high street shops Champs Elysees has to offer, so that was where we ended up. The street itself is so nice with the Arc De Triomphe sitting pretty at the end. After dragging my boyfriend around I made a few purchases and he brought a Paris Saint Germain shirt from the official store. I would have loved to have eaten at the Laduree restaurant but the queue was huge and we only had a few hours before we had to leave for the airport. Instead we went to a lovely place called Bistrot Victoires.
Here I had duck confit and then crème Brule for desert and oh my god both were so nice. I have never had a crème Brule THAT good.
After this it was a very sweaty journey to the airport where we then had a great time in duty free with our left over euros!
Overall it really was a lovely few days away, all the landmarks we saw were obviously amazing but the Parisian architecture and general atmosphere were sites to see themselves. I would love to go back during the winter season one year to see Paris at Christmas and to see everything else we couldn't fit in. My fingers are crossed anyway!
It was a pleasure Parie!
